Save Bernie from Himself: Sign New MoveOn Petition

This is an update of my previous post: www.dailykos.com/… (go here to watch Bernie say it)

First thanks for the tremendous response from Kossaks to a post I thought would not even be noticed. More than 50 signed the petition which really helps give it cred at the start.

Second, the “Not yet reviewed” banner is gone from the top, so MoveOn has accepted it.

Now, let me update my explanation, since too many people thought the petition was hard on Bernie. Actually no. If he followed its recommendation, it would not reduce his chance of being nominated at all. Zip, nada, not in the least. And it could save his reputation. Here’s why:

It does not ask him to stop fighting before all the voters have voted. It does not ask him to stop fighting to win the supers if the voters go for him. It does not ask him to stop fighting if he loses the popular vote, but wins the elected (pledged) delegates. It agrees completely with his top endorser, Senator Jeff Merkley of Oregon.

So if it’s this relaxed, what the heck does it do?

It asks him to stop fighting if he has absolutely no chance of winning. It asks him to stop fighting if it would violate his own principles — Let the voters decide. It asks him to stop fighting if it would go against 600,000 signatures of his supporters. The above three are all the same thing.

So what’s so tough about that?

The key is this: If he loses BOTH the popular vote AND the pledged delegates, then the ONLY way he can win is to have over 250 superdelegates (who have thought Hillary was the best choice all along) decide that they will override (1) the popular vote, (2) the pledged delegates and (3) their own long-held views. So far he hasn’t convince even one to do this. This is not going to happen. Period.

So the petition only asks that he stop fighting Hillary and start fighting Trump if he absolutely cannot win. How can anyone think this is hard on Bernie?

More puzzling: Why does Bernie say he will definitely fight through the convention, even in the one case where he cannot possibly win, and where it goes against his principles and his supporters?

I’m workin’ on that. Got any ideas?

In the meantime, help save Bernie from himself, save the Dems from Bernie, and help defeat Trump. Really, Bernie could have a great legacy if he shows he likes fighting Trump as much as he likes fighting Democrats.

So, just sign this short MoveOn petition to Bernie:

. . . . . . . . pac.petitions.moveon.org/…  It’s really important to stop this BEFORE it happens.

Name, eMail, Zip. That’s all it takes. We’ve only got till June 7th when CA votes and Bernie has to finally decide. Hope he chooses solidarity.

Thanks for your help,

Steve
